It is possible for a map to be added to the Authorised Traders section that shows their locations, and maybe to add Recormended Specialists as well.

I have seen many posts where people are asking for this or that in a certain location, with responds coming back 'considering your area go to him/her'. I consider this to be something more for the less mechanically sorted members rather than those that are prepared to do it trhemselves.

I am currently looking for somewhere to do a remap in the cambs area and this sort of addition would come in very useful.

I think the idea is so that at a glance a member can see the options he has in terms of garages and trader he has local to him, rather than having to check each individual trader's section/website.

Could be done a little simpler though no need for a map in a sticky thread that could be updated for example

Scotland

Parts :
Trader A
Trader B

Parts and Tuning Services:
Trader C
Trader D

Tuning Services Only:
Trader E

Northeast

Parts only:
Trader F

if you get my drift ? :d

I think it would be a good idea to have a UK map of ALL garages and body shops that have been used (and recommended) by forum members as our own traders list is a little limited for location (i.e. North London, Milton Keynes, Bristol and the North East covers them all).

Also, I haven't had much success with many of the traders on here so I think we need to have a greater selection of trusted garages and services:Pling:

all great ideas so far :)

possibly could add if you need work done on a car if they collect and return, or if you have to drive there, especially if it is some distance. not always convenient to take a car somewhere, if you can't get home. Some things only take an hour or two so no problem, but if it is a longer timescale would be useful to know about that type of service.

I know some use Supra as a daily driver, and have no other car, i know some places will offer a courtesy car while yours is being looked at, that may be handy to know. i had that offer from the place i use in T/Wells.

also, can do same thing for parts etc, will a trader/supplier deliver, mail or collect only (i know mostly it is dependent on size or weight), but think that would help.

really do think it would be handy for a one stop shop for traders/suppliers to list what they do, so you can compare and not waste anyone's time.

The only problem with recommending other specialists or local garages on a map like that is that it goes against our traders rules. Also, we had a similar idea whereby ages ago members could secure discounts for other club members at garages etc and we then added them to a list for everyone to see. It all went tits up when a few people got ripped off by one of them and then questions where asked as to why the club was promoting and advertising a company who was not an authorised trader and who turned out to be useless. So the idea was dropped.

I think the current method will survice. If you want to find a garage local to you then you post up and ask. Members have always been allowed to recommend non-authorised garages in this way. At least you stand a chance of getting up-to-date information about how good or bad the garage in question is.

However, a map of authorised traders would be fine. We could also colour code it to show what each trader does, or use google maps style popups will all the details of the traders.
