I need some diff oil. acording to mkiv.com, it needs to be 75w90 lsd oil...

I've been to my local Toyota dealer - They don't sell it apparently, they only buy it in drums for their workshop :conf:

I've tried a few of the local motor factors around here and haven't managed to find any yet.

I have a Ferrari dealer just up the road from me, obviously they'll have some but, is it going to be the same for all cars with LSD's?

Have you tried Fensport ?

www.fensport.co.uk

They do Valvoline LSD oil, can't remember the viscosity off hand.

Yep page 159

(page 163 in mine :p )

says
1.65L / Hypoid Gear Oil API GL-5
recommended oil viscosity:
above -18C = SAE 90
below -18C = SAE 80 or 80/90

BUT, then again, it STILL says auto' = Type-II ! ! !
AND, brakes = DOT 3 ! ! !
AND, engine = SG/SH ! ! !

SO, the info has probably NEVER been 'upgraded' ?

(mine is a 'brand-new' book, Toyota-purchased last year......
.........STILL copyrighted 1994 ! ! ! !)

I now keep a goodly supply of what many consider the ultimate oil, Motul Gear 300. Suits both LSD and none LSD cars, fully synthetic, and, hard as I am to be impressed by oil claims, the grossly overstressed transaxle in my race car has had the crown wheel and pinion (axle) last 3 times as long between replacement with Motul oil than with the Castrol and Valvoline oils we used before in the `box. I sell it at 10.50 a litre, no VAT to pay. Details are at www.motul.com

The above is not a dig at Valvoline (whose products we still use as engine oils) and castrol, the Hewland LD200 transmission in the racer is taking about double its design torque, so really tests the oil. It is used as its so light...
