Some of you may remember me posting up in a thread in September about fitted car covers for the supra, well, now they have been produced, and prices have been released, I have even got a discount on the covers for forum members.

The covers have been designed to fit a stock supra with the stock rear wing, but they will have some slack for aftermarket bumpers - As my car was used as a template (Abflug front bumper/OEM style skirts/spats).

I can personally vouch for the quality of the covers as I have the prototype and I was told that it was a rough one. At the moment there are no pictures of one fitted to a supra as I'm in Afghanistan!. Pictures will be available sometime in April.

Now, on to the important bit.

This is the blurb from the manufacturers:

"Stormforce: These top of the line covers are suitable for use in all weathers & can also be used as a soft dust cover in the garage! The rugged grey outer is soft yet durable and has a special soft lining for ultimate care of paint and chrome. All four layers are bonded together & the 3rd layer is a special waterproof/breathable membrane that allows damp & moisture to escape from the car but stops rain & dew from penetrating the cover.

Our UK designs for individual models ensure that the cover fits snugly with elasticated hems and strong, detachable underbody securing straps. We also include eyelets on the bottom hem on either side to allow fitment of our locking kit (Locking kits are available for an additional £8.95).

Stormforce covers protects against hot sunshine, rain, hail, snow, frost, tree sap, birds, pets, dirt, dust, scuffs & scratches and are 100% UV resistant. Welded seams are used wherever possible & double stitched hems ensure long life & total outdoor protection. They are breathable, suitable for continual use in all weather conditions and are incredibly strong. In very low temperatures the fabric remains pliable & in strong hot sunshine they keep interiors cool and protect against soft top/interior fade, paint fade & other sunshine degeneration.

Retail Price: £159.50 Incl Vat, Special Club Price: £132.95 Incl Vat

Voyager: A range of lightweight breathable covers for in garage or outdoor use. Breathability ensures that any damp or condensation can evaporate away from the covered vehicle whilst water resistance is maintained by a special bonded coating. Voyager covers are double stitched for strength, feature elasticated hems, underbody securing straps with anti scratch fittings and are manufactured from a latest generation silver fabric. The Voyager is lightweight, yet very strong and compresses down to a compact size that is ideal for tucking in the boot when not in use.

Retail Price: £81.50 Incl Vat, Special Club Price: £59.50 Incl Vat

Sahara: A traditional indoor dust cover, but at a sensible price!

Our dust covers are breathable and 100% UV resistant to protect paintwork and prevent colour fade. Supplied with elasticated hems and underbody straps for a snug fit, a Sahara cover will keep the dust and dirt off your pride and joy and keep it away from prying eyes. Manufactured from a thick non-woven material in a royal blue colour, Sahara dust covers will not deposit fluff on mohair or canvas hooding material and are both machine and hand washable

Retail Price: £61.95Incl Vat, Special Club Price: £42.95 Incl Vat

All Supra covers feature fitted door mirror pockets, detachable underbody straps & are supplied in a strong zipped storage bag at no extra charge.

We have all the above covers in stock now & UK carriage is £8.95 for stormforce & £6.95 for Voyager / Sahara.

For payment we accept Visa / MasterCard & UK cheques."

If you wish to purchase one, please do by:

01903 731333 or online at www.cover-zone.com & just send a message at the same time to state 'club special price' - It also maybe worth mentioning my name. (Si Murphy) To get the discount.

I will also add, I have nothing to do with the company, not taking any commission etc.. I just hope I am providing something worthwhile for the club.

ok, i asked, any the reply is:

"All the covers are washable by hand or by machine your domestic machine is big enough..... no problem on Voyager & Sahara, I think!

We include an instruction pack with every cover & this has details of how to wash & other tips for caring for the cover. We'd suggest a wash only once or twice a year as the fabrics have been treated with a waterproofing agent & this will become less effective with each wash."

Quick bump - has anyone taken a photo of one of these on a car yet?

I want a cover but I don't want one that looks as though it's a blanket dropped on a car, I want it to be tailored to fit the important bits. I'm also concerned that these have been designed around the TRD wing so could look baggy on the stock one - hence the photo request.

Here are some pics for you! Received it the other day.

It's a tight fit front front to back on mine as I have a Top Secret front bumper, Trial rear bumper and veilside arches. So it won't _quite_ go over the exhaust and a bit of the lip at the front sticks out. On a regular body kit I doubt you'd have that problem.

The material wasn't as thick as I thought it might be (gf had a cover for her MX5 which was almost like a leather jacket!).

However, should keep the rain out ... guess time will tell on that one.

So it's "tailored" for a van with massive wing mirrors rather than a Supra :(

Is the Voyager cover good enough to hold the rain out? Im really just after something that will stop the bird poo going on the car as well as leaves and rain! It says "water resistant but ive never trusted that statement!

i had one before although admittedly it was a cheap n 'will do the job for now' type BUT it didn't hug the underneith of the car very well n the slightest gust of wind sent it flying, i've looked at the pix but can anyone whos purchased one say what its like - does it hug the bottom of the bumpers etc fairly well??

Me too, looks like it could fit a Granada or an Escort van just as well as it does a Supra, more "draped over" that "fitted".

I want one that fits over things snugly so it doesn't have areas where gallons of water can gather or the wind can use as a sail.

nice find micheal, both those covers look a much better fit!!!!

top one looks top quality!!!! :eyebrows:

30-10-07, 20:32
That Aston one is quality.

Having previously had an outdoor cover I can say how annoying it is when they don't fit snugly. Mine constantly blew off the car in the wind and needed weighing down with bricks. The strap that went under the car was nigh on useless.
Also the supposedly waterproof cover made the paint nice and wet leaving nice marks when it dried out.

All in all I'm very cautious of these things now.

Paul

I was considering one of the indoor ones for in the garage but not too impressed with the fit in those pics:(
I wouldn't have the same issues with it taking off in high winds but it looks like I'd end up tripping over the excess material on those mirror parts when walking past it :d

Wonder if the cheaper indoor ones are a better fit?

Will give feedback on rain protection - once it's rained :-)

The fit is tight - especially on mine as non standard front and rear bumper.

Their are two straps that go under the car.

A little wind does sometimes get under the bonnet and lift it a bit. However, it hasn't come off yet (touch wood).

turbonut
31-10-07, 16:59
Question: is this lined so it doesnt scratch the paintwork if the wind sneaks underneath? Are the straps soft so they dont cut into the bodwork or, again, scratch??

sorry to be such a wuss but have heard they can do both over time.

cheers ;)

I don't really know how to describe the material, it's kind of a soft non-slip rubbery thing. Kind of liek material you might get to go under your army chair to stop it slipping on your wooden floor.

I must admit I was hoping it was going to be a bit more heavy weight with a definitive inside and outside skin to it. As I say the MX5 cover had a leather-esk exterior and a soft felt interior.

Don't have have the car with me here, but I think I recall the straps go underneath the vehicle, i.e. don't actually touch the side skirts (assuming no movement in bottom lip of cover which it does seem to fit snug there).

OK, here's my feedback based on a a couple of months use.

I have a Top Secret front bumper, trial rear and Veilside overfenders, so the car is a little longer than standard. I have a standard rear spoiler at the moment. The cover just about fits, however, in strong winds the other day I came down to find the thing flapping around as the winds must have worked the buckle loose.

My main gripe is putting the damn thing on and off though. Trying to get it on is a real pain. I worry about the clips on the bodywork as you pull the cover over the car. In addition, getting down on your hands and knees and trying to throw the buckle underneath the car the other other side isn't very dignified and always gets me cursing.

I've decided I need something like this:

http://www.carcapsule.co.uk/dev/shop/index.php?action=category&id=3

I.e. a retracting dome cover that dosn't actually come into contact with the car, except for a car ...

My neighbour gave me a note with a web address for such a thing, but I can't for the life of me find it now :-( Google doesn't seem to review either.
