Most insurance cover does not cover the act of terroism as was being reported on a recent TV discussion program.
I rang my insurance company up to clarify what is and isn't considered terroism and they wouldn't tell me !

So I'm guessing this is leaving the doors open to mindless vandalism etc. in which they can freely call it terroism and therefore not pay out if the worst happens.

Maybe a good idea to check your own policy to see exactly what is and isnt covered.

Errm, I don't think so AJI. I work for a major insurance company, and yes we do have terrorism exclusions in the majority of our wordings, including motor, but the application of terrorism cover is of little use to us unless we're driving our Supes through Baghdad and Afghan. You're more likely to find terrorism cover attached to small fleet, fleet, and commercial vehicle policies.

Terrorism is not vandalism and likewise vandalism is not classed terrorism. Your policy will cover malitious damage like you mention above.

I really wouldn't worry about trying to add this as an extension to your policy, especially in the UK! :)

In cases of riot and terrorism, insurance companies do not provide cover, as the Government pay. But only if they (the Government) STATE that damage/injury/death was caused as a direct result of riot or terrorism.

Not necessarily true mate. We offer Riot and Crowd Control cover for our Sports, Leisure and Entertainment customers and we are liable for damages to property or person. In most cases though yes, it is a restrictive cover.

Do you mind me asking which insurance co. you work for? And are your quotes for Supes competitive? :d

Zurich Insurance. But the Commercial side I'm afraid.

Our Personal Lines BU will deal with private car insurance. The cover they offer is absolutely fantastic, but of course like all things, it does come in at a cost. :)

A handful of 'muslim extreamists' left bombs 1/4 mile away from my house. Then you've got 7/7 attack and 21/7 attempted attack, plus 30 years of the IRA.

I'll admit it's long odds, but I'd be pissed off if someone marmalised themselves near my car/house and it wasn't covered by my insurance. Would it be wrong to claim against the bomber if they live, or their parents if they die?

True, I suppose.

You could probably claim criminal damages from the family yes, but that's getting into Law not Insurance mate, something I know little about and rarely abide by myself! :)
