Guest blueangel
Im about to get the brother in law to change my cam belt ready for finally putting my supe on the road yyyyaaaaaayyyy. But thanks to a very helpful member of the forum ive been advised to change the tensioner and bearings at the same time so im now trying to source the parts i think the name mentioned was steve manley. I know this maybe should be in parts wanted but aswell as the parts im also looking for advice and possible things that could go wrong so i can prepare for it as i only have 1 day i can do this on. thanks in advance guys. ric
bignum
Have a look at your bottom pulley while its off, these have a habit of seperating and its not pretty when they do.Also have a look at your front crank seal, if its weeping this is a good time to replace that. Anything else boys?
Scooter
you'll need a vice/press to compress the cambelt tensioner, and also a 2mm (ish) alley key to lock it in place. obvious bits are nut locking tool and puller for the crank pulley. thread lock compound (i think) for bolts of the cambelt wheel/pulley. Guest mk47
Also a good idea to change the auxiliary belt at the same time since you're going to be taking it off anyway.
bignum
If your fitting a new cambelt tensioner it comes pre tensioned, just fit it then pull the pin, like a hand grenade:D
_Rob_
Iv just done mine. I ended up changing the cam belt, cam belt tensioner, idler pulley, and bottom crank pulley. I also cleaned and greased up the pulley for the drive belt tensioner. Theres some pics in the toyota manual that show the tollerence for the measurement of the protrusion of the pushrod on the timing belt tensioner which may help, unless someone knows the measurement off hand? As scooter said, the crank locking tool is required. Dont heat the bolt as it damages rubber things. HTH.
Scooter
If your fitting a new cambelt tensioner it comes pre tensioned, just fit it then pull the pin, like a hand grenade:D oh i never knew it came pre tensioned.................could still catch you out though if you pull the pin and then find out you're one tooth out on the timing (shouldn't happen but sod's law!)
