Guru
What is the bottle on the drivers side behind the orange indicator in the duct? The car is in the garage so I can't see what it's for
Homer
Edit - erm, got the left and right confused. Not sure mine has anything on the drivers side! Thats there the SMIC normally sits.

Guru
No it's definitely the drivers side! I thought the SMIC would be but I have a FMIC anyways..... Strangely I can't remember the last time I filled up the washer fluid and my Polo has it on the passenger side so am confused.
Chris Wilson
It's probably the radiator coolant expansion tank, which will have ben moved to fit the FMIC.

Sheefa
That clears that up! Mine was empty but I've topped it up now. However, mine is located by the battery feeding into the Rad cap.
Guru
Looks like mystery sold as it is the relocated expansion bolt. My Wilson wins the pride of knowing it
rik
Where do the pipes run too/from this bottle? I've been building up the front end of my car today, and can't find the pipes for the expansion bottle Saying that, i couldn't find the bottle but i;m sure it's in one of the sheds! Does one come from the rad fill neck?
Guru
Yep one comes off the rad to the right of the cap. The other is an overflow pipe .....
rik
Ah cool. Hopefully when i find my bottle it will have the pipes on it. CW mentioned earlier that it has to be 3/4 full, why is this?
Chris Wilson
The cooling system vents and sucks to and from this reservoir as it heats up and cools down.
