i would too like to know this. Is it possible to replace the sub in there with a better whilst retaining the stock box?

btw im aware i can get replacement speakers 5 x 7 in coaxial format but i dont beleive these would be so great. A 5x7 sub would be nice... even better a 6x9 sub squeezed in :)

Kenwood do a 6x9 sub, come in a pair with their own little amp as well.

you have mounted your 6*9's behind the grille? behind the frame for the 6" ones?

fitting them like this will eventually crack the cone of the speaker

also they cant possibly sound any better like that then a decent set of 6".

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j249/suprajd/6x9s.jpg this setup should sound good though... especially with them being mounted to mdf

But those are rear speakers for the rear.....shouldn't you be concentrating on sound staging in the front?

When i get the chance, im going to strip out the rear sub box and measure up what will actually fit in there. I want to retain the stock look of the car, so definitely want to keep the original sub box.

it wont crack the cone trust me and they sound excellent. i have done many installs in my time and this is a pretty good setup imo

btw try it the other way round (mounted on the mdf). The performance increase should be immense
