Who is running 275/35/18 or 275/30/18?

I'm on fronts=245/40ZR18 and rears=275/35ZR18. These are the standard sizes for the Lexus wheels.

I was asking because the 35 profile gives much better speedo accuracy. Probably feels like a cart on 30's.

Worried about rubbing? On stock suspension 275/35/18's should be fine, but I'm just running 255/35/18 currently.

ah I see, yeah I think 30's are a bit too low profile too.

I think rubbing on 18's even lowered is unusual until you get above 285. The 275/35's are fine.
I'm running 18/35/275 on the back, with Tein shocks which are set slightly lower than standard. I get a little rubbing on the wheel arch when REALLY pushing it around a corner, no problem with normal driving though.

I think this was discussed before and I remember something about 275 was about as far as it was safe to go on the stock rims.
You should have no probs with 285's on 18's with 35 height on stock UK suspension, is J-Spec the same? I dont.

Should have no probs, I've got 19s on now and am putting 20s on shortly!
Gaz.
I've got a set of 22" coming. The car will handle like a bag'O'sh1te but will look cool:innocent:

Mark, I've got 285/40/17's on Standard Supras at the back...
(Khumo 712's)
They haven't rubbed at all yet, but I AM on standard suspension !
[They've now had Pod' / York / Motorway / town / even a fight with
an Esprit on a large roundabout..... still no rubbin' ...]
HOWEVER, just for 'looks' the 285 does look a bit 'tractor-y' ? !
If/When I slaughter 'em, I'll prob' go down to 275's...
ABSOLUTELY NO WHEELSPIN AT YORK WITH ~1.2Bar

I know sorry about that, I was away 'on business' that weekend or I would have gone.
no worries mate....
as it happens, I had a really good day (so did me' Dad),
NOT just 'cos we both got some better times, but, I thought
the whole atmosphere at York was VASTLY superior to that at
Pod'.
Alright, the 'hardware' there was cheaper, or rather, more like
REAL cars, but it was the friendliness of EVERYONE; the runners;
the staff etc even the Burger van people (:p ).
The blokes in the tower COMMENTATING to the spectators, telling
names (:sly: )/ cars/ engines and then times/speeds.
Made the whole day more 'fun'.
Even 2 young ladies 'wetting' each other as well as washing screens
at the Burn-Out point:moo:
Yeah, but York's a bit far isnt it Steve ;)

next meet for me is elvington 13th july
the next meet at york is the 27th july
SUNDAY – JULY 27th - GTi HOT HATCH SPECTACULAR PLUS SATURDAY NIGHT CRUISE IN
- The Run What You’ve Brung for GTi and Hot Hatch enthusiasts. GTi special demos’. Cruise Missile Shootout No 3. Firestorm Jet Car display. Camping from 6pm Saturday.
a lad was telling me about the cruise missile thing where you go in classes and race other cars of same sort of spec. the lad was telling me he won his class and got a trophy. his car was a honda v-tec. you can enter the cruise missile and go on the run what you brung too. sounds like something different to do.
oops gone off topic again.
would like to try some 285`s on rear see if they help over 265
was not sure of profiles for rolling radius
245x40x17
285x40x17

285x35x17 at the rear, would give a very close rolling radius to stock 255's and maintain speedo accuracy, if you car left the factory with 17's
.........and maintain speedo accuracy
BUT, Phil, nearly ALL our speedos are reading VERY optimistic
anyhow ! ! !
I know mine's ~5% over at least...
and 285/40's are ~4% higher 'geared' so actually make the speedo
MORE accurate;)
(OR, I could just tweak Pete's little box - but that's FAR too easy:p )..........
[ps. these ratios are only what I worked out with me Tescos
calculator... so RUFFFFFFF:) ]
I have a sneaky suspicion(sp?) that the taller gearing is/will
make my 1/4 miles slightly worse ?
but not TOO significant ?
(but, it makes yet another fine excuse....:innocent: )

steve what about 245x40x17
seems like i will try 285x35x17 for rears
just need to try work out what brand
dunlop sp9000 (heard these supposed to be good for grip)
kumo supra (like tread pattern n they cheap for strip)
falken 451`s
would like to try some BFG drag radials to see what all the fuss is about. are they expensive?
will keep that pic for future reference
thanks for info
steve what about 245x40x17
about -1.3% ?

Steve, your table assumes that the car left the factory on 17's. Many cars would have started life on 16's so the figures would be different. The figures i have quoted for my new wheels are based ,on my original set up being 16's I know the speedo is not reliable , but assuming it is, then I am closer to a true 60 with the 18's than I was with stock size tires on 17's.
mmmmmmm....
the Jap' 16's are 245/50-16,
that makes 2046mm circ' against 1998mm for the 255/40-17's
that makes the Jap's ~2% BIGGER ? ?
so dropping to UK's would make the speedo even WORSE
(but, I didn't think the ratios/final or speedos would be different
on the Jap - the later ones had the 17's anyhow ?....... getting
wierd now..........! !)
